A message from the artist:

"The Son" — An original line-art illustration of The Son of God – Jesus Christ.

“Through Jesus Christ, we can escape the deserved agonies of our moral failings and overcome the undeserved agonies of our mortal misfortunes.” —Matthew S. Holland

I often find myself thinking of the parable of the divers, which teaches about the degree of difficulty. When a young boy with impeccable form lost his diving competition to a scrappy boy who courageously attempted backflips and one and a half’s, the boy with perfect form couldn’t believe it. He said, “ I stormed the scorer’s table and demanded an explanation.“Degree of difficulty,” the scorer replied matter-of-factly as he looked me in the eye. “Sure, you had better form, but he did harder dives. When you factor in the degree of difficulty, he beat you hands down, kid.” Until that moment I hadn’t known that some dives were awarded “extra credit” because of their greater difficulty.”

The parable then compares the same lesson to our lives on our eternal pursuit of exaltation. It is easy to look at our friends, colleges, and neighbors only seeing them for their mistakes. It is hard to remember the degree of difficulty. Because of the Son of God, everyone can overcome their mortal circumstances. Because of the Son, on judgment day we will not be compared the same. He understands your degree of difficulty and his mercy will stretch to the end. Again, “through Jesus Christ, we can escape the deserved agonies of our moral failings and overcome the undeserved agonies of our mortal misfortunes.”
