A message from the artist:
This painting holds such a special place in my heart. As I have been reading and studying about the Lord's resurrection this week, I have felt so grateful for the knowledge that He lives! I think of the hymn that says, “I know that my Redeemer lives. What comfort this sweet sentence gives!”
My goal was to paint something that represented the comfort and peace of knowing that He lives!
The symbolism:
The Tulips: “The most common meaning for tulips is perfect or deep love. Because tulips are one of the first flowers to bloom in the spring, they can mean rebirth. Victorians often associated tulips with charity.” My studying of tulips made them a must in this painting. Being one of the first flowers to bloom they set the example or rebirth for all the other flowers. The Savior has continually shown the way for us and His resurrection is no different.
The Sunrise: “Dawn suggests the notions of illumination and hope, the beginning of a new day and thus a chance for happiness and improvement. Sunrise is a symbol of birth and rebirth, of awakening.” The sunrise over the tomb is also a reminder of hope and peace. In all of our studies of the Savior, I feel like the resurrection has to bring the most hope. Just days after He experienced excruciating pain in every way, He rose from the dead. He is the perfect example of hope. The illumination of finding the light at the end of the tunnel. He is the light and the life of the world.
