O' Come, O' Come Emmanuel
festive art of Christ. I’m obsessed with stained glass, and wanted to create a Christmas stained glass painting to share with all of you. I decided to title this painting ‘O Come, O Come, Emmanuel’ which is one of my favorite Christmas hymns that always brings me to tears. Here is our Emmanuel, who engraved us on His palms.
The shape of this window is an arch. Passing through an arch is a symbol of rebirth, of leaving the old behind and entering the new. This is a nod to Christ’s resurrection on Easter Sunday. At the top of the arch, you’ll see the Christmas star. His red robe is symbolic of the atonement and the blood He would shed for us.
I wanted to create a painting I can put in my home at Christmas time that would repeatedly remind me that He is the reason we are celebrating. When I see His scars, this robe, the star, and these colors, I am immediately filled with gratitude for Him. I never want to take His sacrifice for granted. At Christmas I feel extra passionate about not forgetting Him, and for me, this piece is one small way of doing that.
